How did they come up with the name Bucktown? Bucktown got its name in the early 1800's as a result of its primarily Polish population's affection for raising goats, the male of which is called a buck. Bucktown's bounders are North Ave. to the South, Fullerton Ave. to the North, Ashland Ave. to the East, and Western Ave. to the West. The area has many trendy restaurants and upscale shops appealing to young professionals.
Bucktown boasts a huge artist community, one of the biggest in the Midwest, including the Flat Iron building and the Bucktown Art Fair. This Chicago neighborhood also hosts the Bucktown/Wicker Park Summer Fest, attracting over 30,000 visitors to the area every year. The Around the Coyote Festival occurs in September in celebration of the neighborhood's creative spirit.
Damen Avenue is the neighborhood's pulse, with a multitude of nightlife and shops. North Ave. also boasts swanky bars, clubs, new restaurants, and cute boutiques.
